Sure, there’s this little place called Haight Street, but the Alameda Point Antiques Faire (2900 Navy Way, Alameda) takes trawling for treasure to a whole new level. First, there is San Francisco’s magnificent skyline shimmering in the distance. Then, there are the 800-plus booths of treasures, from cool-again fashion items to quirky antique decor.

Colorful characters? Check. Hand-me-down keepers? Oh yeah. Seriously weird antiques? Indubitably. Food vendors to fuel hours of shopping? Check and check.

The details: The Faire takes place on the first Sunday of every month from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. Come prepared, as it’s cash only and the on-site ATMs are known to run out early in the day. To reach it, take the ferry to Harbor Bay.
