Arts & Culture are a year-round pursuit in San Francisco. Summer is the time for outdoor events, free concerts (from classical to gospel) at Stern Grove and Shakespeare and theatre festivals in our parks.

  • Fall is opera season and the start of theatre season offering everything from the Best of Broadway musicals to the latest works by emerging playwrights. Early autumn brings the Jazz Festival and the Blues Festival.
  • Winter and spring mean dance. The San Francisco Ballet and other local dance companies present both contemporary and traditional programs February through May.
  • Museums and art galleries are open all year and represent the cultural diversity that is San Francisco. Fort Mason Center offers museums of Mexican, African-American, Italian and folk art, while The City's major museums focus on Asian, modern, American and European art.
  • There's almost always a fair or parade or some kind of celebration on the streets of San Francisco; refer to the Events Calendar for dates and information
