San Francisco has forever been known as the city of love (just ask Tony Bennet, or anyone who lived here during the 60's). So what better place to leave your heart and officially begin your life together in the city that has it all? Whether you're getting married, renewing your vows, or just need to spark some romance in your life, here are 10 reasons why San Francisco is the perfect place to do it (we'll leave the 11th reason up to you). Already had an "Only in San Francisco" wedding or selected your venue? Tell us about it in the comments below!
We hate to brag, but San Francisco really has it all in terms of natural landscapes. From beaches to Bay views, and lush parks to city lights, nearly every neighborhood is surrounded by an epic viewpoint. Ocean Beach provides the perfect setting for an oceanfront occasion, Golden Gate Park creates the perfect ambiance for rustic romance, and atop the roof of one of the city's many hotels provides a twinkling city skyline backdrop....just to name a few.
Romance is Everywhere
If you didn't pop the question in San Francisco, you'll probably wish you had once you see how many swoon-worthy spots are packed into our 49 square miles. The 25,000 twinkling lights which make up the Bay Lights installation on the Bay Bridge add a bit of sparkle to our night sky (every night). Just down The Embarcadero is Cupid's Span, a giant bow and arrow which romantisizes our waterfront. And throughout the city it's likely you'll come across several heart statues, each painted by a different artist and installed in different locations (hint: there are four in Union Square!). So wherever you go, you're surrounded by love.
San Francisco has some of the most unique wedding venues in the country. From the elegant Legion of Honor, to the rustic Presidio Log Cabin and theatrical Foreign Cinema, your occassion will undoubtly be a memorable one.
We've got Pride
Love is love, and nobody knows that better than San Francisco. Our gates have always been open, which is why our LGBT community is one of the strongest (and most fabulous) in the world. And now that Prop 8 is a thing of the past, where better to make it official than in the city that practically invented gay.
Whether it's by ferry, taxi, bus, limo, train or plane, we've got a way to get you (and your guests) from point A to B in style. Our classic Cable Cars connect travelers from Union Square to Fisherman's Wharf, the historic F-Line takes you down the Embarcadero through to the Castro in early 1900-style, and our ferries aren't just a mode of transportation -- they're a cruise with a view.
We're a Culinary Capital
Asking a local for their favorite place to eat is like asking a mother to pick her favorite child. Our chefs are world-renowned and create every type of cuisine imaginable. So whether you're looking for a catered affair or a hosted intimate setting, you can't go wrong when dining in San Francisco. And thanks to our neighbors in Wine Country, we have direct access to some of the best wines in the world.
Your Guests Will Thank You
With so many neighborhoods to explore and activities to experience, your guests will have plenty of entertainment options while you're taking care of those last minute wedding details. The new Exploratorium, California Academy of Sciences and PIER 39 are all perfect for families, while Beach Blanket Babylon, a trip to Alcatraz or the de Young Museum provide a sanctuary for adults. Whatever they do, they're sure to leave with memories that will last a lifetime. For more ideas, check out our pre-loaded itineraries.
Our Accomodations are World-Class
Your guests will need somewhere to stay while they're celebrating your union. Luckily we have accomodation options in every neighborhood for every budget. From the sophistacated high-rises surrounding Union Square to the intimate and cozy bed and breakfasts of the Marina, finding the perfect match for you and your guests is a breeze. And since we're animal lovers, many of our hotels are pet-friendly (such as W San Francisco which offers a pet turndown gift). Need some guidance on where to block rooms? Let our team of experts know and we'll match you up with the perfect place.
It's not easy being green -- but we do it best. Since 2008, San Francisco has promoted green building practices for all new construction in the city, and we were the first city in the nation to provide curbside collection and composting of mixed organic material. And when it comes to weddings, companies such as Locally Grown Weddings & Events will make sure to keep your wedding sustainable with everything from handcrafted invitations using vegetable-based inks, to a feast comprised of locally grown, seasonal and sustainable ingredients.
