Kristine, an art historian, suddenly loses her voice after a successful auction. She retreats to her family's house in the south of France. The villagers as well as the Germans who live there are surprised to see her after such a long time. That she can't speak doesn't seem to bother her old friends just the opposite. Kristine gains a secret ally in Franck, the lover of her daughter Anna, who is evading her studies. But when her husband Herbert, a psychiatrist, shows up at the house, it becomes clear that their marriage is not in the best of shape. But what is not uttered has come between her and her friends.
