San Francisco to Host 2024 AAOS Annual Meeting

20,000 orthopaedic professionals gather to explore the latest in musculoskeletal health

San Francisco (Feb. 9, 2024) – San Francisco is gearing up to welcome back 20,000 professionals from the orthopaedic industry next week as the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeon’s (AAOS) Annual Meeting returns to the Moscone Center for the first time since 2012.

Taking place from Feb. 12 to 16, the world’s largest orthopaedic event will include a series of educational sessions and ground-breaking research symposia covering topics including generative AI and its impact on healthcare, post-operative pain management and trends in orthopaedic sports injuries. More than 600 medical companies are exhibiting at the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting.

“One key element of the AAOS Annual Meeting sets it apart and makes it the orthopaedic event of the year, every year – the experience,” said AAOS President Kevin J. Bozic, MD, MBA, FAAOS. “The experience of immersing yourself in a comprehensive educational program and showcase of innovation surrounded by esteemed colleagues and friends from around the globe. The vibrant and picturesque backdrop of San Francisco is an added bonus.”

AAOS will engage the innovative spirit of the Bay Area with additional programming, including Orthodome®, an immersive theater room showcasing orthopaedic surgical techniques, and OrthoPitch, a new technology competition for novel and innovative orthopaedic products.

According to estimates from the San Francisco Travel Association, the conference is expected to generate $45 million in economic impact, which includes the spending by attendees, event planners, exhibitors, B2B supply chain purchases, and wages paid to workers in the local economy.

“We are excited and honored to host members of the AAOS Annual Meeting for a special event at EPIC Steak,” said Pete Sittnick, managing partner for EPIC Steak and Waterbar. “San Francisco is a global destination. Conferences like this don’t just benefit restaurants like ours – they create a positive ripple effect throughout the entire city, including the hospitality industry and local businesses. As 2024 kicks off, we’re excited to welcome more conferences back to San Francisco.”

“Moscone Center is excited to host the world’s largest orthopaedic organization for its annual meeting. We have been working closely with city departments and community partners over the past year to expand our cleaning, safety, and beautification programs that help ensure attendees have a great experience during their time in San Francisco,” said Ken Bukowski, Director of Convention Facilities at the Moscone Center. “We also look forward to attendees taking advantage of the recently reopened Visitor Information Center at Moscone South for ideas about exploring San Francisco when not taking part in conference activities.”
